The current race director is hanging up his hat after 5 years of directing the Juneau Marathon and Half-Marathon. Are you ready to take this task on for 2026? Volunteer now to work along with the current race director. Moving forward, the JTRR board of directors will help with guidance and resources.
Place mile marker signs/posts every mile for runners' reference on route. This job could be done the evening of Friday, July 25, or starting at 6 a.m. the morning of the event (July 26)
Hang banners (JTRR and sponsors) at the Pioneer Pavilion. Historically there haven't been many to hang. A ladder and supplies can be provided. It would be ideal to have banners hung before the start of the Marathon (7 a.m. start). Taking down the banners after, or toward the end of the event would be helpful - approximately 1:30 p.m.

Assign duties to finish line volunteers
Obtain coolers from the JTRR storage unit and/or designated JTRR volunteer. Ensure cleanliness of coolers. Fill water coolers with clean water. Mix-powdered Gatorade with water into designated coolers. Coordinate coolers being loaded on to U-Haul truck by Friday 7/25 evening. May need to add ice as well.
Help load equipment and supplies into U-haul truck. Return equipment and supplies to the JTRR storage unit (by Sunday 7/27).
Plan for food and beverages to have available for participants and volunteers after the race.

Pick up a U-Haul truck Friday (7/25) afternoon at the race director's house (North Douglas). On Saturday (7/27), set up the five aid stations to be ready for participants and aid station volunteers; patrol the course during the event (keeping aid stations replenished with water if any coolers exhaust, looking for problems like a runner in distress, and keeping track of the last person/"red lantern"); break down the aid stations; and return the truck to Savikko Park. This job would be great to do with a buddy.
Assignments include assisting JTRR and Sportstats staff with collecting timing chips, distributing finishers medals to racers, and monitoring the finish line station needs. The Finish Line Coordinator will contact you with shift time.
Packet pickup for racers that did not collect at NAO on 7/25, and for day of race registrations. Registrations end 10 minutes prior to each event start. 7 a.m. marathon start 9 a.m. half marathon start
1. Some prep can be done prior to race day. 2. Assist is getting food/beverages delivered to covered shelter at Sandy Beach, 7/26. 3. Assist with setting out food/beverages, and restocking throughout the event. 7/26 starting at 9 a.m. 4. Cleanup. You will be contacted to set up desired job dutie(s)/time. Thank you.
